Always with curiosity and intention
Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, Basia Lamb is a pyrographic artist and woodworker whose work is rooted in the natural character of timber. She hand-burns designs into wood so each piece keeps its grain and feel, resulting in objects that are clearly made by hand and tied to place.
Pyrography, the art of drawing with heat, is central to her practice. By adjusting temperature, contact time and tip shape she builds a range of tones. The method requires patience, steady hands and technical knowledge, and produces tactile, textured surfaces.
Basia also turns wood on a lathe, revealing form through rotation and material removal. This process calls for tool control, a close understanding of timber choices and a refined sense of proportion and design.
